Honest From The Start - What can be achieve in one appointment

By Laura | Notes from the Chair

One of the most common conversations I have with new clients is about expectations. Not because people ask for too much — but because nobody has ever properly explained what's realistic, and why.

So here's my honest take.

It starts with the health of your hair

Before we talk about the result you want, I always want to understand the hair we're working with. Its condition, its history — previous colour, heat use, chemical treatments — and how it's feeling right now all play a huge part in what we can safely achieve in a single appointment.

This isn't me putting the brakes on your vision. It's me making sure we get you there without compromising the hair you have.

Colour changes take time — and that's a good thing

If you're looking to make a significant colour change — going from dark to light, for example — it's very unlikely that one appointment will get you all the way there safely. Pushing hair too hard in a single session can cause breakage, uneven results, and damage that takes months to undo.

What I'll always do is map out a realistic plan with you. Sometimes that means a first appointment that takes you part of the way, with a clear idea of where we're heading. It might not be instant — but it'll be worth it.

What's actually achievable in one visit

To give you a clearer picture, here's what's typically very doable in a single appointment:

  • A tint or root touch-up

  • Highlights or balayage on already healthy hair

  • A restyle or cut

  • A gloss or toning treatment

  • A conditioning or smoothing treatment

  • Occasion or bridal styling

The key word in most of those is healthy. The better condition your hair is in, the more options we have — and the better the results.

Why I'll always tell you the truth

I know it's not always what people want to hear. But I'd rather have an honest conversation upfront than leave you disappointed.

My job isn't just today's result. It's making sure your hair stays in great condition for the long term too.

If you're ever unsure what's possible, just ask. That's exactly what a consultation is for.

Thinking about booking? I'd love to chat about what you're hoping to achieve.
